Indiana University Glycomics and Glycoproteomics Data Repository

This page documents the intial Tranche/Indiana University collaboration work for establishing a glycomics and glycoproteomics data repository utilizing Tranche as the underlying data storage mechanism. Several data sets have been uploaded to Tranche in order to test feasibility; however, this only a place holder website to document the collaboration. Please contact the individuals in the reference/contact section for further information.

A brief list of topics related to this collaboration.

Use of Tranche and ProteomeCommons.org

Tranche is an existing network of computers that is used for sharing scientific data, primarily proteomics data. ProteomeCommons.org supports development of Tranche and tightly integrates with data hosted on Tranche in order to let users quickly query and download scientific data sets. The primary features Tranche will provide include the following:

Tranche and ProteomeCommons.org will ensure that the related data sets are readily accessible to the public. In cases where the data set is encypted, it will remain so until the IU Glycomics and Glycoproteomics Data Repository opts for public access. However, Tranche and ProteomeCommons.org primarily treat data sets as large buckets of bytes and do not provide a complete repository for glycomics and glycoproteomics. Indiana University will be relied upon to provide critical value added benefits to the data including domain expertise for data curtation, tools to analyze data sets, and meaningful recommendations for ensuring the quality of data sets.

Example Glycomics and Glycoproteomics Data Sets

Part of the intial phase of this collaboration involved uploaded several glycomics and glycoproteomics data sets to Tranche to test the suitability of Tranche and ProteomeCommons.org for sharing such data. These data sets and the links to the related ProteomeCommons.org data pages are listed below. Do note that this listing will lag behind the live listing available directly from ProteomeCommons.org.

Establishing the University Indiana Glycomic and Glycoproteomics Data Repository

The primary work for this collaboration will be the establishment of Indiana University's Glycomics and Glycoproteomics Data Repository website. This resource will rely upon Tranche, but will focus on creating a user-friendly resource that is appropriate for the glycomics and glycoproteomics communities. The status of this resource can be queryed from the group at Indiana University.

Development of Indiana University's Glycomic and Glycoproteomic Data Repository will include the following:

Groups from both Indiana University and the University of Michigan are participating in this work. All inquires related to the Glycomics and Glycoproteomics data repository should be directed to the group at Indiana University. Philip Andrew's group at the University of Michigan is responsible for maintenance of Tranche and the customized Tranche tools for the glycomics database.
