The Science Commons has formally recommended how resources such as Tranche can formally mark data as either open-access or restricted. In particular the goal is to clearly mark what data is "open access", meaning truly free to use; however, this effort does not mean that tools such as Tranche can't support restricted access data sets. Simply put, if your data is intended to be open access, you can now rely on the work of the Science Commons to unambiguously mark it as open access. This is something that many Tranche users desire, and we were happy to implement the Science Commons recommendations.
